ohn's paintings are attempts to illustrate the experiences in his life. He prefers to produce a

representation of the experiences, rather than a photographic reproduction. He introduces

artistic expressions that enhance the main composition and enjoys experimenting with faux colors  and textures, tweaking the original subject content to produce a representational effect with an editorial statement.

His watercolors begin by exploring his surroundings, whether it is across the road, or down the road.  He does a site search, some photography of the main subject as well as supporting elements and some quick sketches. The first step to his watercolor -  a light pencil sketch - combines compositions found at the site and other related elements from previous research. A more formal pencil sketch is developed. The palette is selected and under-painting begins.

John has received numerous commissions and his paintings continue to win awards in juried exhibitions state-wide.  He is a 1970 graduate of Florida State University with a Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design,  He is a member of Florida Watercolor Society, (FWS) and the Central Florida Watercolor Society, (CFWS). A passionate angler, John is a member of Backcountry Flyfishing Association, Coastal Conversation Association, CCA, and The International Game Fish Association, IGFA, and contributes his artwork to fund-raising events and tournaments to support important marine conservation causes.
