Painting, whether it is oil painting, acrylic painting or watercolor painting, is the act of creating an unspoken dialogue with the viewer.  As the first person in the conversation, I spend time gathering source materials such as photos, drawings and sketches, observing the intended scene, being careful for good composition and go about the task of putting a scene down on paper using water and colors.  It's that simple. Along the way, I throw in some watercolor techniques. Do some careful experimenting and make a statement.

A relationship with a viewer begins when that person stops what they are doing, pauses, observes, enters into the composition and looks around and feels either good -  hopefully - or bad. Then an unspoken dialogue begins. We communicate, and soon, we have a common understanding.

I have always been about the business of art in one form or another all my life, since my mother put a number six pencil and a sketch pad in my hand.   I research my subject matter meticulously. I sketch and paint en-plein-air. I strongly believe that good drawing skills are the most important tool the artist has in his or her toolbox.  I work diligently in my studio trying to perfect my style.  I present my portfolio in galleries for others to critique. I paint and show my work in Florida juried shows and in so doing, have the pleasure of meeting and engaging in conversations with a lot of talented artists and judges in the pursuit of their respective crafts. I have a rich and diverse background in design and marketing which I  bring to each of my projects. I am not yet a finished expert, but aspire to work toward a higher level  through active participation in the Florida Watercolor Society and the Central Florida Watercolor society where fabulous workshops on painting techniques are constantly available. I take great pleasure in handing one of my paintings to new customers all the time.

A good painting is one in which the viewer is drawn into the composition, to look around, become comfortable and have an experience with what is presented. "
